Foundation Programme on Mondays
Study ‘Universal Compassion’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
With Resident Teacher Gen Kelsang Tubchen
Would you like to take your meditation and spiritual practice to a deeper level? Try Foundation Programme…
For people who have been attending weekly drop-in classes for a while and wish to develop their understanding and experience of meditation and Buddhism, this programme offers in-depth study through teachings, guided meditations, discussion and prayer.
The programme is not a drop in class – participants sign up for the study of each book, but you are very welcome to try it out before deciding to join.
‘Universal Compassion’ is an inspiring book that gives a practical and uplifting explanation of how we can transform our day-to-day lives – including even the most demanding and difficult situations – into opportunities for personal and spiritual development. Ancient meditative techniques that have been tried and tested for centuries are brought alive and made relevant to our everyday experiences. The practices of training the mind are exceptionally powerful methods for overcoming our delusions, especially our self-cherishing, and for developing a supreme good heart. In this way, we can attain the real meaning of our human life – full enlightenment. By pointing the way to an unchanging freedom and happiness, this book challenges us to grow, and will have a remarkable impact on our life. What an extraordinary opportunity!

What is The Foundation Programme?
The Foundation Programme provides a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddhist meditation and practice through the systematic study of six essential texts. The classes form a dynamic combination of meditation, teaching and discussion, all of which enable us to go deeper into the meaning of the text and make real progress along the spiritual path. Foundation Programme is not a drop-in class but a committed weekly program, with term breaks throughout the course of study.
There are many benefits to joining Foundation Programme, namely:
- • increased wisdom and experience of Dharma (Buddha’s teachings)
- • studying and meditating more effectively following a specially designed programme
- • the opportunity to discuss, clarify misunderstandings and share experiences with like-minded people
Each class consists of preliminary prayers, guided meditation and reading from the book with commentary and discussion. Students can join at any time but are required to formally enrol.
