About these classes
As happiness and suffering are states of mind, if we are to find the happiness we seek an understanding of our mind is essential. Through learning how our mind works, we can begin to bring our mind under control, and in this way improve the quality of our life, both now and in the future.
The course is based on How to Understand the Mind, a practical guide that offers deep insights into the nature and functions of the mind. It explains how to develop and maintain a light and positive mind through recognising and abandoning states of mind that harm us, and replacing them with peaceful and beneficial ones.
This section of the course will look at gaining a better understanding of the parts of mind that we need to use to improve our meditation practice. We will learn how to give clarity, stability and energy to our meditations.
“Happiness and suffering are feelings – parts of our mind – and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we really want to be truly happy and free from suffering we must improve our understanding of the mind.” Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, How to Understand the Mind
