Nyungnay Purifying Ritual Practice

A Special Fasting Retreat
April 14 & 15

About this Course

This special retreat celebrates Buddha’s Enlightenment Day on which all our virtuous actions are multiplied in potency by 100,000. Consisting of physical prostrations and beautiful chanted requests to Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion, it is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. It is also a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and bodhichitta.

Eight Mahayana Precepts
Each day begins with taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts. When we take Precepts we promise to abstain for 24 hours from negative actions of body, speech and mind and to eat just one meal. During the fasting retreat it is traditional to have one meal on the first day and no food or drink at all on the second day to increase the purificaton. However it is possible to choose your own level of fasting on Monday, eg complete fast, or to drink but not eat, or to eat one meal.

Please note: In order to attend any of the Retreat sessions you will need to attend Precepts in the morning. You do not have to attend both days, or all of the other sessions to take part.

Please contact the Centre if you are interested in attending this special event for more information. There will also be explanations of the practice given during the first day of the retreat.
