About these courses
What is meditation?
And why do we need to practise it?
Meditation is an action of mind which focuses on virtue and functions to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is calm and peaceful we can be happy, regardless of our external circumstances.
So the simplest answer to ‘why we need to meditate’ is because we want to be happy.
We search in so many places for our happiness, leaving no stone unturned… but the ingredient that is missing is a peaceful mind.
In this half day course we will explore the practice and benefits of meditation. When we contemplate these benefits we develop the wish to meditate. And everything starts with a wish…
Everyone is welcome to join in this voyage of exploration of this sublime practice, but it is especially suitable for beginners to meditation.
What is mindfulness?
Training in mindfulness and concentration is not just watching our mind, but actively improving our mind by keeping it focused on a positive object. This practice involves three main mental factors: mindfulness, alertness and conscientiousness.
During this half day course, we will learn how to improve our concentration in meditation by using mindfulness, alertness and conscientiousness.
Improving our concentration in this way gives us the freedom to accomplish whatever we wish for.
‘If we wish to elevate our mind we must merge it with the practice of virtue by steadily applying the power of mindfulness. This is the very heart of meditation’ – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
Everyone is welcome!
