Stillness Within

Fri 22 – Tues 26 March
5 day silent concentration retreat

A unique opportunity to deepen your concentration in ideal conditions on the beautiful Loch Lomond Island of Inchmurrin.

In this concentration retreat we will focus on the meditation Equalising Ourself with Others. In this way we will deepen both our concentration and our love and return to daily life refreshed and energised – with a powerful, loving and peaceful mind.

During the retreat Gen Tubchen will gently guide us to gain real experience of the peace of a concentrated mind. In each session she will help us to still the mind and give guidance to help us absorb inwards and focus, free from distraction.

Concentration is the essence of meditation, and determines both the power and the peacefulness of our mind. Through clear, systematic training we can dramatically improve our ability to concentrate, taste the bliss of suppleness and develop a deep inner peace and contentment.

Silence is powerful. It creates space in our mind. Normally we are constantly distracted by external objects, frenetic activities, scattered thoughts, and chit chat. Observing silence is a powerful method to disengage us from this busyness and it leads us naturally to deeper levels of being. Our heart begins to open. From silence comes stillness. Our mind becomes like a still pool of water undisturbed by ripples.

“Happiness arises spontaneously from peace of mind, and peace of mind arises spontaneously when the causes of suffering within our mind, our delusions, are not functioning and when our mind is concentrated and still”  Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

The retreat will be guided by Buddhist nun Gen Kelsang Tubchen who has 18 years of experience, engaging in and guiding retreat.

Open to all levels of practitioner, including beginners.

In order to observe silence, participants are asked to switch off their phones for the duration of the retreat.

Our Tuesday evening classes, The Concentration Course, and our day course Finding Focus – The Art of Concentration will both provide valuable preparation for this retreat and teach a simple meditation technique for training in the weeks leading up to the retreat.

Everyone is welcome.

Rest & Reflect

Fri 21 – Sun 23 June

Rest, reflect and discover how to enjoy the peace of your own mind through meditation.

Switch off your phone, step out of your normal busy routines, experience silence and connect with your deeper self.

This retreat will take place in the stunning scenery of Inchmurrin Island in the middle of Loch Lomond which is only 45 mins from Glasgow. Between meditations you can enjoy walking around this peaceful island, taking in the views of the mountains and loch as you continue your contemplations.

During the retreat there will be a series of short talks and simple guided meditations to help you develop and deepen your mental peace. At the end of the retreat there will be time to discuss practical methods, that will keep you feeling energized and inspired once you return home.

The retreat is suitable for all levels of experience, including complete beginners and you do not need to be a Buddhist to attend or benefit. For those with more experience of meditation this is a chance to re-connect with the basics of meditation and to deepen your concentration in perfect conditions.

The mornings will be silent until lunch and all participants are asked to switch off their phones for the duration of the retreat.

Everyone is welcome.

The Oral Instructions of Mahamudra

Thur 5 – Sun 8 September

Take some time to rest and reflect and balance the busyness of daily life through simple but profound meditations for inner stillness and peace.

The Oral Instructions of Mahamudra are very blessed. They have been transmitted through a continuous, unbroken lineage from the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri to our present day teachers. And now we have a precious opportunity to take these instructions to heart on this weekend retreat.

In the Sutras Buddha says “If you realize your own mind you will become a Buddha; you should not seek Buddhahood elsewhere”. During this course, Gen Tubchen will clearly explain the essential meaning of these instructions.

You will be guided in simple but profound Mahamudra meditations that can take us to a deep understanding and experience of our mind. Discover your limitless potential for universal love, profound wisdom, and unceasing joy.

Through this retreat we can develop concentration in perfect retreat conditions and deepen our experience of the tranquillity and power of our own mind. This experience will enable us to understand our true potential for transformation, and how changing our mind will change our world.

We can then return to daily life refreshed and energised, and share our peaceful mind with others.

During the retreat there will be silent periods for contemplation, time to walk outside between sessions, and time to relax in the company of others.

Participants are asked to switch off their phones for the duration of the retreat.

This retreat follows the special teachings to be given at this year’s International Summer Festival at Manjushri KMC in the English Lake District.

Everyone is welcome.
